Bite-sized knowledge for the hungrily curious

What is a single strand of spaghetti called?

The Answer

A spaghetto

Full disclosure – the only source I could find to verify this fun-sized snack of wisdom was the Wiktionary, a crowd-sourced dictionary. Webster, Oxford and others have no listing for spaghetto.

spaghetto (plural spaghetti)

  1. (rare, prescriptive) A single strand of spaghetti.

Etymology

From spago +‎ -etto (meliorative suffix).

This revelation made the rounds on Twitter a while back, and led to an article in Bon Appetit on the subject. (all references leading back to the original source above).
